It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Clive Hartwell. He died on Sunday 27 April after a very short illness with his family beside him.
Clive founded the business here in rural Skye in 1983 developing the tannery to make good use of the native supply of sheepskins that were formerly being wasted. He and Lydia grew the business to the 5-star visitor attraction it is today in this beautiful location that Clive loved so dearly.
He was immensely proud of the product he’d created and while taking a bit of a backseat of late he was still in the tannery and showroom almost every day. When not there he would be at his own flock of sheep and very active in the marketing of both Skyeskyns and the neighbouring businesses in Waternish.
Clive made very many friends all over the World and loved to welcome them here. Those of you who had the pleasure of meeting him will remember his warmth and his passion for quality and service.
Clive would have wanted the business to carry on just as though he were still here with all his enthusiasm and panache, hard work and creativity.
We, the Skyeskyns Team, will miss him enormously but we do hope that you will stay Friends with us and see us through what will be a very difficult time.
