Hebridean/Herdwick Cross Silver Curly Sheepskin (Waternish Crofts)
Hebridean/Herdwick Cross Silver Curly Sheepskin (Waternish Crofts)
Description
Description
From the Hartwell family croft here at Skyeskyns comes this stunning and completely unique large silver and curly sheepskin. It is the result of several seasons of cross-breeding between Hebridean and Herdwick ewes and rams.
You are buying the sheepskin in these pictures.
The Breeds
The Hebridean is the native breed in these island, small, stocky, hardy and usually very dark wool. The Herdwick is usually found in the North of England, is hill-farmed and famed for its tones of grey. Its similarly hardy nature makes it a good fit for Skye.
The two breeds are slow-maturing which means it takes at least 18 month for a lamb to be come to maturity. This leads to coarser wool but in this example, the wool is softer than usual and has a natural light grey/silver curl. Our tanner has left the curl in as it looks so special.

It's approximately 95-100cm long by 65 wide at its largest points and really beautiful.
